Ronald Apangalook, a Siberian Yup’ik Eskimo artist from the village of Gambell, Alaska, created this beautiful, finely carved figure. This wonderful piece is carved of walrus ivory with baleen inlay and pigment ink defining the facial features of the seal head.The work exemplifies Ronald's fine attention to detail and his sophisticated carving technique. Ronald’s Eskimo name is Qaygeghutkaq (shortened to Qay), literal translation “put on top”.
