Harrison Miklahook Jr.

Harrison Miklahook Jr. is a Siberian Yupik artist born in the village of Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. Attending school in Savoonga, he started carving at a young age, carrying on his family tradition. He was taught to carve walrus ivory and fossil whalebone by his father, noted carver Harrison Sr. just as his father had learned from his father, Christopher Miklaghhaq Miklahook.

Harrison Jr. grew up living a subsistence lifestyle. He currently lives in Nome, Alaska, but returns to St. Lawrence Island to hunt walrus, seals and birds and participate in whale hunting during the spring migration.

Harrison Jr. uses whalebone, baleen, and muskox horn to carve his wonderful whale and seal sculptures and detailed carving of eagles.
