Ronald Apangalook, a Siberian Yupik artist from the village of Gambell, Alaska, created this beautiful, finely carved piece. This powerful piece is a carved walrus ivory tusk with baleen inlays on a fossilized whalebone base. This amazing sculpture depicts a beluga whale, seal, walrus and human face. This work demonstrates Ronald’s incredible carving ability, attention to detail and his sophisticated use of the natural materials. Ronald’s Yupik name is Qaygeghutkaq (shortened to Qay), literal translation “put on top”. The piece is signed Qay.
