Description

Mama Polar Bear Playing With Her Two Cubs
walrus ivory, fossil walrus ivory, baleen
2.5"h x 5"w x 2"d

Wilson Ifkaaqu Okoomealingok, Siberian Yupik, carved this wonderful family of polar bears from walrus ivory. Wilson inlays baleen to depict the bear’s eyes. The mother protecting and playing with her cubs is a familiar subject of Wilson’s. His scenes, be they animals or birds, usually include mothers showing love for their offspring. The trio is mounted on a fossilized walrus ivory base.

Wilson’s work is among the most collectable of well-known Yupik carvers. Please call or email arcticspiritgallery@gmail.com for price or with questions.
