7.375"h x 2.375"w x 1.375"d
Ronald Apangalook, a Siberian Yup’ik artist from the village of Gambell, Alaska, created this beautiful, finely carved stylized figure of two Cormorants. This wonderful piece is carved from a single piece of walrus ivory with the eyes created from baleen and the bird's bills fossil walrus ivory.
This elegant piece exemplifies Ronald's fine attention to detail and his sophisticated carving technique. Ronald’s Yup'ik name is Qaygeghutkaq (shortened to Qay), literal translation “put on top”. The piece is signed carved QAY on the bottom.
