Seal Hunter Scene
Description
Seal Hunter Scene
walrus ivory, fossil walrus ivory, ink pigment, walrus skin, sinew,
3.75"h x 1.5"w X 6"l
Mary Seppilu, Yupik carver from St. Lawrence Island, created this imaginatively carved scene of a hunter pulling a seal. Carved from walrus ivory, the figure and his catch sit atop an artifact - a fossil walrus ivory sled runner. This piece is expressively detailed and is a terrific example of Mary's unique work.
This is a collector's piece and is signed ML Seppiu, Savoonga, Alaska 99769 (the zip code). It would make a fine addition to any Northern Alaska art collection.
