Katie Smith, a Yupik basket maker from Quinhagak, Alaska made this traditional tightly woven coiled sea grass basket with a snug lid. The flower and geometric designs are woven into the basket using dyed grasses.

Most Quinhagak households practice subsistence hunting and gathering utilizing the village's excellent location for salmon and trout fishing, bird, caribou, and moose hunting, and seasonal berry picking and grass harvesting.
