Laura Therchik, a Yupik artist from Toksook Bay, Alaska created this coiled sea grass basket tray. Laura dyed the grass using natural and commercial dyes to create the colorful circular pattern. Yupik women began making this type of basket in the late 19th century. Toksook Bay is a city and village on Nelson Island in Bethel Census Area, Alaska with an estimated population of 667.
