This wonderful scrimshaw piece is by Mary Mueller. The Resting Sled Dogs depicts two dogs taking a break from the trail - perhaps the Iditarod. This beautifully detailed scene is a terrific example of Mary's fine scrimshaw technique and use of the unique properties of the fossilized mammoth ivory in the overall design of the work. A strip of rawhide is adhered to the back of the mammoth ivory for stability. The piece sits on a lovely wood base and is signed.
