Yupik artist Margaret Iquyuilnguq Abraham-Stiefel created this wonderful doll engaged in the activity of jigging, ice fishing. The woman wears a winter parka and mukluks made from a variety of animal furs expertly stitched together; traditional clothing worn by Alaskan Natives from the Bethel, Alaska region.
She sits upon a log of wood and holds her recent catch - a carved and painted wood fish. This collector's doll is a wonderful representation of Yupik culture, Mararet's expert doll making and skin sewing skills. The doll is signed Cupik - Yupik on the bottom of the left foot mukluk.
