This exquisite baleen basket is finely woven by Harry Hank, Inupiat, from Point Barrow, Alaska. This incredible basket is an hourglass shape woven with white baleen. Baleen varies in color with the lighter shades rarer and more difficult to find. The color of this basket is considered "white" baleen, however the actual color is greenish gray.

The finial, a polar bear head, is carved from walrus ivory by Siberian Yup’ik artist Ronald Apangalook. This is an extraordinary piece and would be a terrific addition to any collection.
