This wonderful baleen basket was woven by Andrew Tooyak Sr. (1927 - 2004), an Inupiaq from Point Hope, Alaska.  Was well-known for his exquisite work, Andrew created this basket using the old, wide-weaver, Point Hope-style technique. The unique square shaped basket is accented with white baleen. This square woven basket is exceptionally clean and symmetrical. A lovely sleeping swan carved walrus ivory finial completes this beautiful vintage basket.

The basket is signed "Andrew Tooyak Sr. PHO AK”, inside the lid.
