Square Baleen Basket with Walrus Head Finial

This unique baleen basket was created by Carl Hank, Inupiat, from Point Hope, Alaska. The basket features a woven combination of lighter brown and black baleen with a white baleen accent on the lid. Thewonderfully expressive walrus head finial carved from walrus ivory by Carl. Two walrus whiskers depict the tusks and Carl inlaid baleen for the eyes. The basket is signed Carl Hank on the bottom.
