Description
Man - Eagle Dancer
Walrus ivory, baleen
8"h x 3"w x 1.75"d
Ronald Apangalook, a Siberian Yup’ik Eskimo artist from the village of Gambell, Alaska, created this beautiful, finely carved figure. Ronald used a beautiful piece of walrus ivory to carve this wonderful transformation dancer and inlaid fossil to define the eyes of the eagle. This work exemplifies Ronald's fine attention to detail and his sophisticated carving technique. Ronald’s Eskimo name is Qaygeghutkaq (shortened to Qay), literal translation “put on top”.
