This wonderful basket was woven by Haida basket maker April Varnell using red cedar bark. April used the plaiting technique to create the rectangular shape and embellished the basket with Russian white heart trade beads. The basket is part of a collection purchased in the mid-1990s.

April is part of renowned Haida family of artists. Her mother is Delores Churchill; her sisters are weavers Holly Churchill and Evelyn Vanderhoop; and her son is noted carver Donald Varnell.
