Timber Vavalis

Timber ‘Woosh Kee Ton’ Vavalis was born in Juneau and has lived in Alaska his entire life. He is Tlingit from the Chilkoot Tribe, Yéil Hít (Raven House), Sockeye clan. Timber was eight years old when his father, John Vavalis, a well-known artist, taught him to carve wood.

Timber works with primarily yellow cedar and his work is inspired by Tlingit and Haida legends and designs. He is known for his paddles and his work is in collections throughout the world including a paddle presented to the late President Bush and one to the astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
