Killer Whale Fur Felt Hat

Internationally renowned fashion designer and traditional Haida artist Dorothy Grant crafted this fur felt hat appliquéd in wool felt with her original Killer Whale design.  An innovator and textile artist, Dorothy developed a new style and technique based on the traditional hat forms of the North West Coast. Her fur felt hats are contemporary hats made of Angora rabbit fur. A collectable wearable art piece, the fit of the hat is just where it falls on the head. 

Felting is the universal oldest form of fabric making. Dorothy’s hats are crafted on a uniquely shaped wooden hat mold.  Her original Northwest Coast designs are created to fit in the 3-dimensional field. Dorothy pays attention to every detail of each hat from start to finish. Her hands are the only ones that touch the hat until it’s finished. She has made hats for artists, educators, chancellors, dancers, and art collectors.
