Athabascan artist Margie Sparks of the Tok/Tanacross region created this wonderful miniature sized baby carrier. Athabascan peoples of the Interior have gathered birch bark in the same careful manner for generations. It is gently pried off the tree in the summer when the sap is running, the only time bark can be removed without harming the tree. Margie formed the birch bark to make this traditional baby carrier. Margie, is also noted for her Athabascan beadwork.
