Description

Sweet Little Harp Seal
walrus ivory, ink pigment, baleen inlay
1”h x 5” l x 1.75”w

This lovely harp seal was created by award winning Siberian Yupik Eskimo artist Alvin Aningayou. Inspired by the marine life of Saint Lawrence Island, Alvin carved this truly wonderful piece from walrus ivory carefully stippling pigment onto the surface to create the fine detail and individual character of this unique little seal. Alvin used baleen inlay for the eyes.

Harp seals can be itentified by the black V, or 'harp-shaped' patch on its back. The rest of the body is silver grey and the face is black. The harp-shaped marking is only present on adults. Pups are born with a coat of white fur.

Alvin has carved his signature on the bottom. Please call for price or email arcticspiritgallery@gmail.com.
