Description

Polar Bear Cribbage Board
walrus ivory, baleen, black ink, ochre pigment
2”h x 3.25”w x 10.75”l

Joe Kunnuk of King Island, Alaska carved this wonderful cribbage board from walrus ivory. This unique piece features two human faces on the underside (a human face is a distinctive characteristic in many of Joe’s works) as well as a carved human figure and a seal serving as the base. The polar bear’s tongue pulls out to reveal a carved out space holding four hand-shaped ivory cribbage pegs; two of fossil ivory and two on brownish mammoth ivory. This exceptional work by Joe Kunnuk is signed and will make a valuable addition to a collection of Northern Alaska art or fine gift for any cribbage enthusiast.
