This wonderful sculpture is hand-carved by renowned Inupiaq artist Richard Olanna of Shishmaref, Alaska. Richard was taught to carve fossilized whalebone by his father, Elliot Olanna, a well-known Inupiaq carver. Richard developed a distinctive style and fine carving techniques that are reminiscent of his father’s. Like his father, Richard’s work can be found in museums and galleries, and is sought after by collectors.
