Egg Gathering Chevak Doll
caribou hide, sealskin, fur, cotton, seed beads, wood
13"h x 6"w x 3"d

The late Ursula Paniyak, a well-known Chevak, Alaska doll maker, created this delightful doll. The doll’s expressive face is made of caribou hide with an applique nose, white seed bead teeth and black and white seed bead eyes. She totes a sealskin bag to collect wild bird eggs, a Cup’ik traditional subsistence activity, and uses a walking stick to steady herself over the tundra. She is wearing suede mittens, sealskin mukluks, blue denim jeans, and a long floral print kuspuk with a fur ruff. The doll is signed and dated on the bottom of the boots. This one-of-a-kind doll will add a touch of whimsy as well as a glimpse of traditional Alaskan life to any collection!
