Deborah Head

Deborah Head, Tlingit name Aanutein, is a life-long resident of Craig, a small community located on Prince of Wales Island in southern Southeast Alaska. She is of Tlingit and Haida Native Alaskan heritage. Deborah gathers and prepares the red and yellow cedar bark used to weave her baskets in the same tradition as her ancestors. She is very interested in her culture and continues to research her family heritage and Northwest coast basket making. Each of her original pieces is inspired by traditional objects housed in museums and in personal collections throughout the country.
